Cloyne Commission for Liturgical Formation

On
Sunday's Eucharist

The Church's Vision

Sunday is not only the remembrance of a past event; it is the celebration of the living presence of the risen Lord in the midst of his own people (Dies Domini: 31).*

The Assembly is enriched by the 'outpouring of grace which the celebration of the Lord's Day brings' (Dies Domini: 30).

On Sunday, the faithful should assemble in joy and commemorate as one the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, by hearing God's Word and by celebrating Eucharistic thanks, praise and communion.

Our Aim
To constantly enhance the Sunday Eucharist so that the people of God may joyfully experience as a community the living presence of the Risen Lord in their midst.

Our Objectives
· To provide ongoing formation so that the people of God may fully appreciate and experience the Sunday Eucharist. Particular emphasis will be given to the link between baptism, confirmation and the celebration of the Eucharist. Also, Christians who gather each Sunday to experience and proclaim the presence of the Risen Lord are called to evangelise and bear witness in their daily lives (Dies Domini: 45).

· To engage in a process of consultation with the priests and people of the diocese to identify support structures to improve and enhance the celebration of the Sunday Eucharist.

· To harness the vast gifts and charisms of the lay faithful. E.g., to identify and encourage the musical gifts and talents within the community for the role of choir, cantor, musician etc.

· To provide human resources for parish-based formation in regard to the role of: The Assembly, The Presider, The Minister of the Word, The Music Minister, The Extraordinary Communion Minister, The Altar Server, The Initiation Minister, The Hospitality Minister, The Sacristan, The Collector, The Flower Arrangement Minister.
